How ASPIRE-AT Helped Tep Sith Expand Native Chicken Production in Svay Rieng Province
In 2024, with support from ASPIRE-AT, he joined Farmer-to-Farmer learning and strengthened his skills in vaccination, disease treatment, feed mixing, coop hygiene and business planning. With improved financial literacy and greater confidence to invest, he then independently accessed a US$3,000 loan from the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (ARDB). He used the loan to build a 75-square-metre chicken coop, purchase a 240-egg-capacity incubator, and expand his breeding stock.
Today, he manages 70 breeders and 300 meat chickens, and his monthly income has risen to 400,000 to 600,000 riels. He is also sharing his experience with up to 150 agricultural cooperative members, including 85 women, helping others strengthen production and improve market participation.
“Technical knowledge and investment changed my farming,” he says.
His story shows how IFAD-supported training and stronger financial capability can help farmers move from traditional production to more stable, market-oriented livelihoods.
