Building Adaptive Capacity through the Scaling-Up of Renewable Energy Technologies in Rural Cambodia (S-RET) Project

S-RET is a project of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). The project is financed by a grant from IFAD. In turn, IFAD has received financing from Global Environment Fund (GEF). The framework for implementing S-RET is the same as for other projects financed by IFAD using funds from other sources. The IFAD is responsible to report to GEF on the use of GEF funds and the results achieved.

The project is implemented at national level and actively operating in five provinces that supported by former Project for Agriculture Development and Economic Empowerment (PADEE) and has expanded to scale up Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) use in agriculture to all provinces supported by another IFAD financed program “Agriculture Services Program for Innovation, Resilience and Extension” (ASPIRE).

Project Timeframe: 5 years from 2016 to 2021 (including 1 year with No Cost Extension)

S-RET Project Goal: To Improved livelihoods for poor rural people in the target provinces,

S-RET Project Development Objective: To “Achieve a large-scale adoption of RETs in the agriculture sector of Cambodia”:

  • to assists at least 8,000 (40% women) smallholder farmers to adopt climate-resilient RETs,
  • to reduce GHG emissions equivalent to at least 80,000 tons of CO2.
